It’s the season to be busy. A season that makes me come alive! There are parties to attend, gifts to give, meals to cook and traditions to celebrate. The slow twinkling of lights, music in the air, chestnuts roasting, and a fire that is so delightful – it’s truly magical.
In this season of love, gratitude, and giving, more often than not we end up being anxious, overextended, under-rested and in an endless buying frenzy. This year I decided to reevaluate a few choices we make during the holiday season as a family; homegrown succulent plants in reusable/recycled vases as gifts, home-baked cookies for friends and family, recycled paper or e-cards to all near and dear ones; to name a few.
And then, the most compelling questions of all… “WHAT to WEAR to the next holiday soiree? Herein lies the holy grail of dressing – A VERSATILE WARDROBE. Not necessarily a capsule closet, but one where you can mix and match a multitude of options, and you are not afraid of playing with different prints/colors/textures. Experimentation is the key; a little shimmer, a bit of naughty, the luxury of cashmere and the suppleness of silk; to create endless looks! You DON’T need to have an overflowing closet to do the same. Reinvent your wardrobe and develop your own personal style. Invest in QUALITY over QUANTITY and figure out the silhouettes that work best for YOU. It’s easy to get caught up in the en-vogue look, a specific designer print, or the faux pas of monogrammed pieces. The mystery and charm of “what are YOU wearing” IS THE NEW BLACK! Nothing replaces personal style, let your personality show thru it.
When I founded my clothing line, I asked myself WHY? Why did I need to add more clothes to already overflowing closets? The answer for me was not in making clothes but making a positive social impact and telling a story. My brand personifies not just an outfit but a LIFESTYLE – Creating beautiful timeless pieces, Sustainability as a choice, Power of a tribe, Supporting women who run small businesses like me and working to give traditional crafts a contemporary look.
I strive for “QUALITY and VERSATILITY” in this direction. Take our HARPER DRESS for example; a striking dress in luxurious Hand batik silk georgette. Batik prints which I personally work on with the fabric designer, that are then handcrafted by young girls in a correctional facility. Teaching the girls this skilled craft enables them to find meaningful work and keep them out of harm’s way. A striking split shoulder that can be ruched, cinched elastic waist, side seams that can be gathered for a flattering draped look; creating a multitude of options with just one dress. Slip into a sparkly pump, and you are ready for a holiday brunch.
We genuinely hope you imbibe our holiday spirit; Sustainability as a lifestyle. Lastly, Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram/Facebook or sign up for our newsletter as we unroll the new year with more topics on style, sustainability, and lifestyle.
